Q & A Member Spotlight: Cultiva
Meet Luis Hernandez w/ Cultiva
Q: WHAT’S YOUR GREAT, GOOD WORK?
A: Did you know that the delicious cherries you enjoy eating every summer have a very delicate skin and tend to crack after a rainfall event? A rainy spring could result in big economic losses for cherry growers in the Pacific Northwest and other producing areas around the world.
Cultiva is helping growers sleep better when black clouds roll in! Headquartered in Las Vegas, our company has a proprietary technology designed to supplement the cuticle of fruit and foliage in an environmentally friendly way. Originally developed by researchers at Oregon State
University, products based on this technology are now used commercially on multiple high value crops to suppress cracking, improve fruit quality, increase yields and reduce the impact of environmental stress on plants.
Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR WORK?
A: Helping build an Ag-Tech company has been a fun and challenging experience. One of my favorite parts is being out in the field to witness the performance of our products and how that translates to a better return to that particular grower.
A: WHERE ARE YOU GOING FROM HERE & WHAT DO YOU SEE IN CULTIVA’S FUTURE?
Q: We’re just getting started! Until recently, there was very little understanding on the role that the plant cuticle has on crop quality. By further developing our technology, our vision is to become the leader on crop cuticle care and offer new solutions to growers around the world.
